Hakui City Chirihama Nagisa Driveway
 (Hakuishi/Chirihama)

Chirihama Beach, located in Chirihama-cho, Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is also known as ``Nagisa Driveway'' and is located 3 minutes walk from my home.

It is the only one in Japan that can be driven by private cars, large buses, motorcycles, and bicycles.

The sandy beach stretches for 8 to 10 km, and it feels great to run through the wind while watching the sun set.

For about 10 years now, an event has been held every year with Chirihama as the finish line.

SSTR (Sunrise Sunset Touring Rally) events start at sunrise over the Pacific Ocean or the Seto Inland Sea across Japan.

The goal is to reach Chirihama by sunset on the same day.

There are checkpoints determined by event organizers along the way, and you will pass through parking lots in various places.

In the early days of the event, the number of participating motorcycles was less than 1,000, but now the number is likely to exceed 10,000.

There are various types of bikes participating.

From large bikes to mopeds. Everyone will have fun and aim for the goal in Chirihama.

Before sunset, the sight of the headlights of thousands of motorbikes lined up on the long stretch of sand is a sight to behold.

Events are also held at special venues including many galleries at the finish line.

At the same time as sunset, a large welcome fireworks will be set off over Chirihama.

As dusk approaches, participants who have crossed the finish line are heading to their respective lodgings or returning home, and the sound of motorbikes in Hakui City is constant.

This event is sponsored by hotels and inns in Hakui City and the Noto Peninsula, and my husband and I welcome them at the finish line every year.

The sandy beach of Nagisa Driveway used to be several hundred meters wide in the Showa era, but the sand has been flowing offshore every year.

I want to protect this wonderful place as much as possible.

SSTR also supports projects to protect the Chirihama coast.
